Not for the first time, Manselton Community Centre is warming us and welcoming us.
It took a lot of hard work to get Manselton Community Centre built in the first place, and since it opened in 1999 it’s been a hub of group activities including youth clubs, knitting groups, judo and taekwondo classes, children’s parties, parent and toddler groups and meetings of brownies, beavers, and cub scouts. It also functions as a polling station during elections.
In 2023 it’s fulfilling an additional function. As always it’s focused on bringing people together, giving us something we need and as always it’s built on the unselfish commitment of the women who make it possible.
As part of the Cwmbwrla Winter Warmers project, centre manager Nicola Thomas is providing a weekly community lunch, and as always, everybody’s welcome. From 1pm to 5pm each Sunday Nicola, ably supported by kitchen queens Gaynor, Ricky and Lea, will warm you in more ways that one.
Lea arrived in this country from her native Lebanon seven years ago, and along with her parents, brother and sister she’s become a familiar and widely loved face in Swansea. Lea was just five years old when she came to the UK. Now, at twelve, she’s a prize-winning student who her teachers believe is on track for a university place at Oxford or Cambridge. Lea regularly volunteers to help with People’s Library community projects, notably supporting older people and people with disabilities. Lea and her brother and sister have been raised to respect their elders, love their neighbours and appreciate and return kindness wherever they find it. If you’re looking for an example of that, why not join us at Manselton Community Centre one Sunday afternoon.
Come dine with us.
