Community Lives Consortium was founded in 1989 when attitudes to disability in this country were regressive, to say the least. All too often, skills were disregarded, personalities were ignored and potential was left unfulfilled. We’ve come a long way since then, and in December 2024, CEO Rick Wilson marked 35 years of progress at the Consortium’s Annual General Meeting with a celebration of people who have found their voices and are making themselves heard. Community Lives Consortium service users are respected community champions, leading the way with positive action.

Delivering support under contract with Swansea and Neath Port Talbot Councils, the Consortium helps people live successful lives on their own terms across Swansea localities in Cwmbwrla and Landore, Mynyddbach and Penderry, Fforestfach, Fairwood, Sketty and West Cross. Service users are not only supported but respected. Decisions about which activities to pursue and which types of care are appropriate are taken in partnership with the users. This same principle applies in Neath Port Talbot networks covering Pontardawe, Neath, Briton Ferry, Aberavon and Margam. Coffee mornings, arts and crafts activities, walking groups and lunch clubs are tailor-made for enjoyment and empowerment.

When asked what could be done to improve the service, users spoke with one voice. More staff, please. Community Lives Consortium staff and managers do an outstanding job, and the people they support would, understandably, like more of the same.

As always, Rick Wilson and his team are listening. Community Lives Consortium are currently recruiting for Support Workers, and welcome applications from anyone seeking full-time or part-time work. They’re looking for people who balance competence and compassion. People who talk to others, not at them. People like you?

Members of the Community Lives Consortium team take satisfaction in the knowledge that they make a positive difference to people’s lives. If you’d like to share in that pride and fulfilment, you’ll find more information here.
