When I started work on what would turn out to be the 81,000 words and 313 pages of “Seeing the wood for the trees; building the community we deserve” the aim was to share a point of view. If you disagree with it, your thoughts are welcome and so is the debate they might spark. Argument is good. Peeking our heads around the corner and seeing the world from a new angle is good. I’m still learning and I’m grateful to everyone who teaches me something new.

In the three months since the book was published, I’ve learned that there are enough people invested in compassionate, inclusive democracy for us to defend it, no matter who attacks. We just need to come together and accept that we’re all fighting the same fight. Striving for equity and justice on behalf of one person gives us an affinity with others fighting the same fight for people of different backgrounds, ethnicities, abilities or genders.

Thank you for reading this book. Thank you for engaging with its arguments and responding compassionately to the people whose stories it tells. They are worthy of your esteem and your support. In 2025 the People’s Library will publish more community books, both fiction and non-fiction, and help many more people tell their stories. In the meantime, “Seeing the wood for the trees; building the community we deserve” is available on Amazon for £8.95 or from the People’s Library direct for £8. To purchase direct from us, simply contact us via this website or via the email address hello@peopleslibrary.co.uk and let us know where you‘d like your copy delivered. This book was written for you and the sales and positive comments that have come in steadily over the past few months have made it all worthwhile. Thank you.
